Ammanford 0 Llanelli 2

(Wednesday)

It was Llanelli Town who ran out 2-0 victors over Ammanford in the Carmarthenshire derby on Wednesday night at Stebonheath.

Ammanford showed early promise when Euros Griffiths tested Carl Richards in the home goal with a header from a Matthew Fisher free kick, but Llanelli responded with Bruno Forkuoh going close as he poked wide 18 minutes in.

Jamie Rano denied the winger with a brilliant stop from point-blank range. But, it mattered for little as from the resulting set-piece former Ammanford man Jamie Evans headed home the opener.

The home side headed over from another corner five minutes later before they almost doubled their advantage on the cusp of half-time, but Rano injured himself attempting to save the shot which rattled the bar and was substituted at during the break.

Immediately after the interval, the visitors came close to equalising.

Brett Enoch played the ball down the right flank for Alec Squires whose cross cum shot just grazed the upright.

Squires then missed Ammanford’s best chance of the half, when Craig Frater’s deflected effort fell for the midfielder, whose looping effort bounced out off the crossbar.

James Kirkwood’s first action came on 60 minutes when Forkuoh forced a save from the young goalkeeper after gliding past Lloyd Davies on the right. The ever lively forward should have scored minutes later, when he poked Kirkwood’s parry just wide with the goal at his mercy.

With 10 minutes to go, Llanelli ruled out any Ammanford comeback when Anthony Owen fired home from the edge of the area, as the Reds collected all three points.
