Welsh League Division Three
Bridgend Street 1 Cwmamman United 1
Cwmamman United gained a valuable point at Bridgend Street in the second meeting between the sides in seven days - with the exact same result.
Cwmamman began on the front foot with good wing play from Marc Lloyd and Liam Soroka rewarded after 10 minutes when David Brown scored from close range to give the visitors a deserved lead.
Bridgend Street equalised 10 minutes before the interval when a shoulder-to-shoulder challenge from Craig Spring inside the box was deemed overly-aggressive by the referee, who pointed to spot.
The penalty was converted and the hosts drew level.
Cwmamman looked to boss the midfield after the break and were unlucky not to regain the lead when a goal-mouth scramble led to a fine double save by the home side’s goalkeeper.
Cwmamman’s defence were rarely troubled during the second period and with Neil Phillips and Spring winning most of the midfield battles there only looked to be one winner.
With five minutes to go, Cwmamman thought they had a decent shout for a penalty when one of Soroka’s runs saw him weave his way into the penalty area only to be kicked from behind by Bridgend Street’s defender.
The referee waved play to continue, much to the fury of the visitors.
A good point for Cwmamman, considering the opposition’s current form but the visitors should have claimed all three.
Next week Cwmamman entertain Cardiff Corinthians (KO 2.30 pm).
Cwmamman Reserves gained an excellent 3-1 home win against previously un-defeated Coelbren Athletic. Brieg Matthews, Mickal Rybicki and Jonathan Thomas found the net for the hosts.
