Welsh League Division Three

Cardiff Grange Quins 1 Ammanford 5

Ammanford overcame a slow start to run out 5-1 victors against Cardiff Grange Harlequins and reduce the gap between at the top of the table to just five points with three games in hand.

In the opening half, Ammanford posed little threat going forward after Mikey Morris’ effort nine minutes in was saved.

Craig Frater produced the away side’s best moment of the half when his shot from the edge of the area was well kept out by the league’s bottom-placed side.

The hosts then pressed forward, with Rhys Owen having to step in with a last ditch tackle on 19 minutes.

However, the deadlock was broken before the break, as the visiting defence was split open by a smart through ball and the Quins striker duly put his side ahead.

In the second period, the Carmarthenshire outfit were handed a golden opportunity to take something from the match when one of the Quins number saw red – literally and figuratively – when Brett Enoch on the edge of the area.

Five minutes later, Frater levelled from the penalty spot after a shot in the area was handled.

The striker then fired wide after a well-worked move on the left as Ammanford looked to take advantage.

On 60 minutes they thought they had, but Frater’s volley was ruled out for offside.

Ashley Richards’ introduction almost paid immediate dividends, but the forward’s shot after rounding the keeper was blocked. However, it mattered for little as Dayle Selvage scored a contender for goal of the season with 15 minutes remaining as the full-back unleashed a rocket of a shot from 30 yards which rippled the top corner of the net.

A three-minute goal fest then commenced when Richards poked in after the keeper failed to hold on to Fisher’s tame shot.

Minutes later, Morris cut inside from the left and powered one into the top corner, before Frater doubled his tally when his shot rebounded off the post after Fisher sent him through, allowing him to tap home four minutes from time to secure a vital win ahead of the top of the table clash with Llanelli on Wednesday evening.?
