Welsh League Division Three

Cwmamman United 1 Bridgend Street 1

Cwmamman were left frustrated after a 93rd minute equaliser ensured they remained sixth in Welsh League Division Three.

The home defence were called into action as early as the fifth minute when Mark Snell saved well to deny the visitors.

The hosts’ first opportunity came soon after when Craig Spring’s acrobatic bicycle kick went sailing over the bar, but the miss of the game came minutes later when Liam Soroka went on a great run down the right and his cross found Andrew Bonomi who somehow skied his effort over the bar from five yards.

Bonomi was to make up for the miss before the break however when, on 34 minutes, Cwmamman were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area and a perfect delivery from David Brown saw the frontman Bonomi head home to give his side an interval lead.

The second period proved a scrappy affair with the better chances going the home side’s way, but with the game on a knife edge it was Bridgend Street who dominated possession - once again Snell who kept the hosts in front.

With 20 minutes remaining, Cwmamman looked to have earned a penalty when another penetrating Soroka run was halted when he appeared to be felled inside the box.

The referee however saw things differently saw and Soronka earned a yellow card for simulation, much to the home side’s disbelief.

With the hosts defending deeper and deeper, the visitors were allowed to press forward in search of a leveller and the killer blow duly arrived deep into additional time.

Cwmamman failed to clear and David Brooks calmly slotted the ball under Snell’s body for a well deserved point for one of the better sides to have visited Grenig Park this season.

The draw leaves Cwmamman four points off third with four games in hand.

The two sides meet again next week when Cwmamman travel to Splott in Cardiff for the return fixture. ?
