Division One West

Ammanford 11 Gorseinon 12

In an enjoyable game for the neutral with some good open rugby played in the first half both sides put together several flowing phases of play, but for all the huffing and puffing neither could break the deadlock and they went into the interval at 0-0.

Ammanford started the second half positively with some good driving forward play, and a loose kick out of defence from Gorseinon gave home full back James Owen room to go on a mazy run.

From the resulting ruck a well-placed diagonal kick from Rhydian Morris saw wing Dafydd Pritchard gather and beat his man to score in the corner for a 5–0 lead.

Gorseinon came back strongly and used the wind to pin the home team in the corner for long periods.

The pressure as Ammanford’s discipline issues resurfaced and Morris was yellow carded.

From the ensuing lineout the visitors drove over to level the score.

With play on the halfway line the Goersinon centre lost his head and was shown yellow after a flurry of punches and Owen slotted the 45-metre penalty to put the hosts 8–5 ahead.

But back came Gorseinon and a try-saving tackle from wing Rees was in vain as from the next scrum the visitors built an attack from which second row Southgate drove over. A superb touchline conversion from outside-half O’Kelly eventually proved to be the difference.

Ammanford came back but all they could amass was a penalty from Owen to reduce the arrears to a single point at 12-11 and a last minute decision to go left when wing Pritchard only had a worried looking prop in front of him meant the visitors held out to secure the win.
