Division Three West A

Penybanc 22 Lampeter 16

After a couple of disappointing losses, Penybanc bounced back to winning ways with a hard-fought win over second-placed Lampeter.

In poor conditions, Banc tried to play their usual running game in the first half with little joy.

Full back Wayne Williams was a handful with his dangerous counter attacking while centre Bradley Nicholls used the wind well putting in some huge touch finders.

Nicholls registered the home side’s first points with a penalty but Lampeter hit back with a try and couple of penalties to go in at half-time 13-3 up.

The second half saw a rejuvenated Banc side tear into the visitors, and some inspired substitutions helped the pack get the upper hand at the set piece and the platform allowed half backs Owen Williams and Mathew Lloyd a steady stream of ball.

No 8 Chris Jones was the architect of the Banc revival with an outstanding individual try from half way using a mix of pace and power to score.

Centre Mathew Brayley added another great score after spotting a gap in midfield. Both were converted by Nicholls.

With the game evenly poised, the next score was to prove crucial.

After a succession of drives from the forwards, Brayley was on hand to power over again.

The away team kicked a penalty to get themselves into losing bonus point territory with 10 minutes remaining and threw everything towards getting the win.

However, they were met with ferocious Banc defence and they were forced to kick into touch. The Tigers face another tough task when they take on New Dock on Saturday.
