Division Three West C

Pantyffynnon 27 Furnace 17

Pantyffynnon avenged their early season defeat by Furnace in an entertaining match despite a heavy pitch and strong winds.

The hosts opened up with the elements at their backs and scored two early tries through Stu Sutherland and Rhys Phillips to complement a Nick James’ penalty.

Furnace then hit back with two tries of their own as indiscipline by the homesters gave the visitors a foothold in the game.

With the hosts coming under increasing pressure, the calming influence of fly-half John McWilliams nullified the challenge as he pinned Furnace back with his dead-eye right boot.

With half-time approaching and Panty back on the front foot, McWilliams again put boot to ball with a clever chip through which was gathered by Nathan Jones who pounced on the ball for a fine try.

After the break, Furnace sent wave after wave of attack at the Panty defensive line, but the hosts repelled their advances thanks to some ferocious tackling, led by flanker Dan James.

Playing into the wind, Panty looked to run possession and in Matthew James they had the perfect outlet clear the lines as the scrum-half ran at the visitors, creating holes for others.

On one such counter, Aled Williams went on a charge up the touchline before offloading to Steff Morris.

The prop was hauled down two yards short, but not before he was able to feed Nick James for the bonus score.

Again Furnace attacked in the final quarter, and again the defence stood tall.

Pantyffynnon face another tough encounter on Saturday as they travel to Penygroes.
