Welsh League Division Three

Panteg 1 Cwmamman United 4

Cwmamman United paid their first ever visit to Panteg House Sports ground and earned a deserved three points to lift them to third in the league and the all-important promotion spot.

Cwmamman started the game well and took the lead after 18 minutes when Andrew Bonomi’s shot from just outside the penalty area found the bottom left-hand corner.

Panteg struggled against the in-form visitors despite a never-say-die attitude and a desire to get forward in numbers while tackling as if their lives depended on it.

It was only a matter of time however before Cwmamman doubled their advantage with an acrobatic bicycle kick from David Brown.

On the stroke of half-time United had the chance to put the game to bed when Liam Soroka was felled in the box and Panteg’s left back was dismissed for a second yellow card, but Ashley John’s spot-kick was well saved by the goalkeeper.

In the second half, the hosts began well and pulled a goal back after Mark Snell’s goal-kick hit the back of a team-mate and fell inviting for the home forward to halve the arrears.

The goal gave the 10 men a new-found belief and Panteg got themselves on the front foot while Cwmamman were guilty of wasting several good chances, including Marc Lloyd’s miss when confronted by an open goal and Bonomi fluffing his lines when one-on-one with the keeper.

Cwmamman’s midfield pairing of Craig Spring and Steven Hughes did well to break up play in the middle of the park and the visitors were eventually rewarded for their efforts when Bonomi netted his second with 20 minutes remaining.

Five minutes later the game was over when Bonomi claimed his hat-trick, deftly guiding the ball into the bottom right corner.

The visitors should have gone on to win by a bigger margin, but some great saves by the home keeper ensured the score remained 4-1.

Next week Cwmamman travel to Cwm Welfare (Kick off 2pm).
