League Cup Quarter Final

Cwmamman United 4 Tredegar Town 2

Cwmamman United deservedly progressed to the semi- final of the League Cup with a hard fought victory against Tredegar Town.

United started well and took the lead after 10 minutes when a 25-yard Liam Soroka strike left Tredegar keeper Kris Morris and. found the corner of net.

The hosts dominated midfield and went close again when another Soroka shot went narrowly wide.

Tredegar drew level against the run of play when a deflection found Chris Quinlan free and the forward drilled the ball passed a helpless Mark Snell in the Cwmamman goal.

The visitors held on to parity with a scrambled clearance after United had hit the crossbar with a looping header and the sides went into the interval on level terms.

Immediately after the break a brilliant Jack Medwin header from a set-piece saw the hosts regain the lead but again Town hit back as Ian Morris guided home a header from a corner.

Cwmamman continued to boss the centre of the park with Craig Spring and Steve Hughes breaking up play and looking to push forward at every opportunity.

Andrew Bonomi’s acrobatic bicycle kick appeared to have out the hosts back in front only for the linesman’s flag to rule out the strike. To the fury of the home side, the resultant free-kick was given United’s way.

With 20 minutes remaining, a goal-mouth scramble saw Medwin net his second of the game and restore Cwmamman’s lead.

Five minutes later Nathan McNeil’s 199th senior goal for Cwmamman sealed the victory with a rasping effort from 15 yards.

Soroka was unlucky when his 40-yard effort seemed to be heading for the top corner only for Morris to scramble back and save.

Tredegar had a few late efforts but Cwmamman held on for a historical win.

Next week Cwmamman United return to league action with a trip to Panteg.
