Welsh League Division Three

Llantwit Major 1 Ammanford 2

Craig Frater scored a late, late winner to ensure Ammanford left Llantwit Major with a 12th consecutive league win after his brace gave the Carmarthenshire outfit a 2-1 win on Saturday, writes Nick Davies.

But, it was not all plain sailing for the league’s form side who cleared off their own line twice as the home side looked to grab an early lead.

On 15 minutes, Matthew Fisher saw his attempt deflect to Nathan Jones who then saw his effort deflect wide.

Llantwit then had their own effort denied by James Kirkwood in the Ammanford goal.

But it was the visitors who took the lead.

Brett Enoch played in Frater on the left, who cleverly opened his body before firing across the keeper, putting his side into the lead after 23 minutes.

The league’s eighth-placed side immediately responded though.

When Rhys Fisher failed to boot his clearance past the man on the edge of the area, he was made to pay as the attacker excellently fired his strike into the roof of the net to bring the hosts level.

The Cardiff outfit didn’t let up on the pressure before the break either, as from a corner a swift turn and shot left the Ammanford defence looking shaken.

Enoch did cause a threat on the cusp of half-time, but his shot from the left was comfortably saved.

After the interval, Ammanford dominated proceedings.

On 54 minutes, Fisher passed to Enoch who cut inside before squaring the ball in return, but the forward’s improvised dink after slipping in the area, landed on the roof of the net.

Llantwit’s best opportunity of the half came from a set-piece, as they just fired wide from 20 yards.

Alec Squires threatened the goalkeeper with his shot soon after, but his effort flew over the upright.

Substitute Lloyd Davies, who recently played in Wales School’s friendly against Australia, caused a threat on the left but Ashley Richards could only volley wide from the winger’s pinpoint delivery.

Frater then saw his low shot held on 71 minutes, before he fired wide nine minutes later.

Substitute Kurt Morgan almost scored a thunderbolt of an effort late on, however his dipping effort just fell wide of the goal.

But, in time added on, Frater notched his 22st league goal of the campaign when he capitalised on a poor back pass and slotted home to give manager Gruff Harrison a superb weekend after the recent birth of his daughter, and send the away fans into jubilation.

The two clubs play the reverse fixture at the Recreational Ground this Saturday.
