Division Two West

Tycroes 28 Penclawdd 20

After several disappointing results in recent weeks Tycroes went into their meeting with Penclawdd hoping to overturn recent history.

The hosts took early the lead early on when a well-worked blind-side move saw the ball passed back inside to Tycroes prop Mark Rodway, who was on hand to power over. Carwyn Richards added the extras.

Penclawdd struck back almost immediately when centre Phil Tucker crossed to open their account and Dan Guanari levelled the scores.

A poor clearance downfield saw the visiting backs pass their way into the home side’s 22 and, with the home defence in disarray, Owen Jones crossed in the corner to give the visitors the advantage.

With the game turning into a chess game and both sides looking for an opening, the referee showed a yellow card to the Tycroes flanker for an off the ball incident.

Against the odds, it was Tycroes who crossed the whitewash next when outside-half Dean Bromham stepped his opposite number before feeding Mathew Lemon to score his first try for the club on 37 minutes.

Lemon crossed again on the stroke of half-time to give the hosts a 21-15 interval lead with Richards kicking both conversions while Guanari added a penalty for the visitors.

Guanari crossed the line on 46 minutes to reduce the deficit, but his conversion attempt was wasted.

As the two sides battled for dominance, the visiting second row saw red and was shown yellow for repeated infringements.

A well-struck penalty took Tycroes down into the visitors twenty-two, where a catch, a drive and a well-steered maul saw Charlie Randall cross to give the home team their bonus point win.

Richards added the extras to secure a 28-20 victory for the hosts.

The win saw Tycroes move up to fifth in the table.

Tycroes take to the road next week when they travel down the M4 to take on Penlan.
