League Three West A

Llandybie 11 Tumble 24

The return fixture of the season opener ended with an almost identical result as Tumble proved too strong for Llandybie.

The hosts took an early lead after five minutes when Tumble were penalised for failing to release and Aled Tomasson slotted the points.

The lead was short-lived however as visiting outside-half Leighton McKenna made the most of a poor defensive clearance to race home before converting his own score.

McKenna grabbed his second try following a smart break by scrum-half Chris Davies and again, added the extras.

Although Llandybie had been forced to shuffle their pack due to a host of injuries, they more than held their own and made life difficult for the visitors.

Lyndon Davies and Merlyn McClelland carried well for the home team and Trystan Tomasson and Mike Tench put in a series of big hits.

Mark Tench playing at scrum-half the first time in an age did a sound job in feeding the home backs, who had been thrown together at the last minute but were eager for work despite struggling to make headway against the well-organised visiting defence .

An infringement in the ruck presented Llandybie with another penalty which Tomasson converted to reduce the arrears to 14-6 in favour of the visitors at the break.

Early in the second period McKenna added a penalty to the Tumble total before centre Nicky Allinson cut through the defence to score under the posts.

The hosts refusing to give up despite trailing 24-6 and, with Tumble throwing the ball wide, winger Josh Cranfield, finding himself three-on-one judged his interception to perfection before sprinting away to run in a score from 40 yards.

Tumble were more than deserving of their win, but Llandybie will take heart from the huge effort which ensured the scoreline remain respectable.
