League Three West C

Betws 33 Llangadog 15

Having endured a disappointing performance at Tregaron seven days earlier, Betws faced league leaders Llangadog with a point to prove.

Fielding three sets of brothers in the match day squad, the hosts started brightly when wing Dan Madge put over player-coach Gavin Thomas inside the first ten minutes.

The score was a wake-up call to the visitors and they showed why they started the day at as league leaders with two well worked tries. A third was also on the cards but for a last ditch tackle from returning winger Ashley Evan,s who ate up the ground to haul down the already celebrating Llangadog man.

With two minutes left before the interval, Betws levelled when hooker Matthew Madge steered the driving maul over from an attacking line-out.

Playing up the slope after the break, Betws began to dominate proceeding and the home scrum was becoming the dominate force on the field - so much so that the referee wasted no time in awarding a penalty try when Llangadog’s pack pulled it down in the act of scoring. The try was converted by Dan Griffiths.

Llangadog refused to lie down however and after reducing the areas through a penalty they exerted pressure on the younger Betws side only for the hosts to hit back on the coutner and run in a 40-metre try.

The game was won as Betws moved out of sight following some great defensive work by Sion James and a fantastic chip and chase solo effort from winger Evans who raced in from distance to complete the scoring.
