Scarlets League - Division One

Ammanford 2nds 33 Pontyberem 2nds 27

With both clubs having seen their Fist XVs knocked out of their respective cup competitions Ammanford and Pontyberem were able to strong sides in the Scarlets League - and neither team disappointed, putting on a competitive game of, at times, a very high standards.

Ammanford scored the first try of the game when outside-half Ceri Rees touched down out wide.

Soon after scrum-half Johnny Evans scored a solo effort, to boost his confidence after a long lay of through injury, with Rees converting.

Pontyberem replied with an all but identical try under the posts but Ammanford hooker Carl Williams was on hand to receive a scoring pass.

The conversion took the hosts into a 19-7 lead, but the visitors hit back before the break with a converted try and a penalty to pull themselves to within two points of the homesters.

Ammanford came out the second half as they did the first with hooker Williams scoring his second try.

Evans also claimed his second of the match for what seemed a comfortable 33-17 lead.

But as in the first half, Pontyberem finished strongly with a converted try and a further penalty to ensure Ammanford were happy to hear the final whistle.
