Division Three West A

Bynea 17 Penybanc 30

Penybanc completed the first half of league fixtures with a trip to Bynea and climbed to second in the table thanks to an excellent win over their in-form hosts.

With availability becoming a recurring problem, Banc headed for the Loughor estuary missing ten first team regulars and found themselves a try down inside two minutes.

Poor defending from the visitors ensured Bynea were able to dominate early on until two quick-fire Bradley Nicholls penalties got Banc back into the game.

Despite their problems, the Banc scrum impressed powered their side back into the game with young props Rhodri Jones and Zac Rees dominating their older, more experienced opponents. Centre Mathew Brayley also had a big game in attack and defence.

Lively scrum-half and Backs coach Owen Williams burrowed his way over from short range to take the Tigers ahead before No 8 Chris Jones went over after a well rehearsed line-out move for a deserved 16-7 half-time lead.

With the second half underway and the strong wind causing both sides problems, Brayley and wingers Mathew Lloyd and Lee Evans took the game to the hosts with a series of barnstorming runs.

Brayley was rewarded for his efforts, when - after good work from lock Carl Rees – he was able to power over. Nicholls added a superb conversion.

With the home side growing ever more frustrated, Banc stuck to their rugby and it was the man Brayley who smashed his way over to secure the win and a bonus point that definitely was far from expected early on.

The win takes the Tigers up to second in the league before they head to Swansea Uplands in the Swalec Bowl this coming Saturday.
