Ammanford 45 Tenby United 5

A hat-trick from Andrew Owens ensured Ammanford continued their excellent post-Christmas run with the hosts having scored 132 points in the last three game.

Despite playing with the strong wind, Ammanford started slowly against the visiting seasiders, but after an even first quarter the hosts got the scoreboard ticking.

A catch-and-drive lineout inside the visitors’ 22 drew the home defence in, and some quick offloading saw centre Owens race in under the posts for the first try. Outside-half Rhydian Morris converted.

Some fussy refereeing led to a stop-start affair which affected Ammanford more than Tenby as props John Barnsey and Kev Jones along with hooker Chris Morris found themselves regularly on the wrong end of the official’s wrath.

The visitors made the most of the disruptions, and a nice passing move coupled with some sloppy midfield defence from Ammanford saw Tenby score a try in the corner to reduce the arrears to 7–5.

The visitors conceded a penalty under the posts when Ammanford went through the phases and Morris slotted over as the visiting scrum-half made his way to the bin for the infringement.

With a supporters puzzling why the half was going into its 50th minute the home team moved the ball in their own 22, wing Gary Stephens found himself in yards of space only for the final pass to fall short of his waiting hands.

The home side started the second half as they finished the first, moving the ball well.

With centre Michael Evans coming more into the game, some early forward pressure appeared to give hooker Morris a try only for the ref to rule out the score for a double movement.

Bur Ammanford were in determined mood and growing pressure led to another Tenby yellow card.

From a scrum, Ammanford spread the ball and wing Dafydd Pritchard raced in to score in the corner. Morris duly converted with a great kick into the strong wind.

With their tails up, Ammanford broke from a scrum in their own 22 and superb 50-metre charge by Michael Evans saw second row Liam Baker. His excellent offload put Owens over for his second try. Morris again converted.

Ammanford, in full control, added a further 22 points in the final 20 minut4es.

A ruck close to the visitors line saw lively scrum half Aled James pop a reverse inside ball for replacement hooker Ryan Williams to drop over for a try. Morris added the extras.

Tenby looke4d to hit back, but a wayward cross-field kick was plucked out of the air by wing Pritchard who then raced forward, handing off two defenders and running 75m for his try.

Not to be left out of the party the forwards went for a pushover try, scored by Emyr Price and converted by Morriss.

With the game coming to a close a final Ammanford move saw the try fest finish as it started with a Owens getting his third and Morris slotting the ball over to round off an excellent performance.
