Division Two West Central

Cwmgors 45 Glyngorrwg 15

Cwmgors claimed a maximum five-point haul as they put lowly Glyngorrwg to the sword with a seven-try bonus-point victory at a very windy Maerdy.

On a perfect pitch despite the bad weather, the hosts raced into an early lead as centre Mike Hodges warmed up the crowd on a bitterly cold day with an early try.

The Cherries faithful were cheering again when man of the match Dylan Hills pounced on loose ball to stride over for a second score. Steff Rees added the conversion for a perfect start.

Glyn, without a single point, boast a big side all over the pitch and hit back well with a converted try, before Number 8 Hills galloped over for his second of the day. Rees again added the extras.

A Glyncorrwg penalty reduced the arrears momentarily before wing Gavin Madge scooted over in the corner for another score and the bonus-point. Mr Dependable Rees again extended the lead.

Cwmgors kept up the pressure in the second half, and - from a rolling maul - replacement flanker Paul Caines took the try-scoring pass to run in.

A series of dropped passes stopped the Cherries from pushing even further ahead until Madge strolled over for his second. Rees again converted,

With Glyn down and well and truly out, full-back Lloyd Watson crossed the whitewash in the dying seconds to round off a perfect day for Cwmgors.

The Cherries will be at home again on Saturday when they welcome Aberavon Green Stars to the Maerdy.
