Welsh League Division Three

Ammanford 6 Bettws 3

Ammanford continued their undefeated start to the season with a 6-3 win over Bettws in a fiery contest on Tuesday night under the lights at Briton Ferry to make it nine wins out of nine, writes Nick Davies.

The hosts started on the front foot and Dayle Selvage saw his early shot from the edge of the area saved.

But, it was on 10 minutes when they gained the lead.

Brett Enoch made a darting run from the middle, evading four defenders before scoring across the keeper.

The away side tested James Kirkwood in the Ammanford goal, but saw their half-volley attempt just tipped over.

Soon after, Craig Frater latched onto Selvage’s cross, but his shot at the back post saved.

The lead was doubled when Ashley Richards’ effort was deflected past the diving keeper mid-way through the half.

On 37 minutes, Rhys Owen was cautioned for a sliding challenge, but Bettws could only blast over.

Rhys Fisher then fluffed his lines when he was presented with a good opportunity from a parried free kick.

Ammanford were pegged back though on the cusp of half-time, as the visitors headed in from a flicked on corner.

Immediately after the interval, Frater got one of his own when his on-target free-kick deflected in. Minutes later, the away side pulled one back from the penalty spot.

Despite being under the cosh at the time, the hosts countered quickly with Frater finishing the move by smashing in his second of the game and his 17th of the league season on 63 minutes.

The lead was three when Frater squared for Morris from the right to tap in for his first Welsh League goal on 75 minutes.

But, just five minutes later, after an off the ball incident, Morris was dismissed along with the opposition player.

This didn’t halt Ammanford though, as Enoch robbed a defender of the ball in his own area before fooling the keeper with his shot to make it 6-2. Bettws responded immediately, just a minute later.

Late on, Frater hit the post from the spot after Enoch was brought down in the box, but it mattered for little come the final whistle.
