The curtain fell on the Women’s League campaign on Sunday with Penybanc Panthers winning the Division Two title in emphatic style.

The campaign has proved frustrating for the all-conquering Panthers with many sides withdrawing from fixtures meaning the Penybanc side has played only seven of their 12 scheduled games.

Despite their limited appearances however, the Panthers romped to the title.

In all games the Panthers ran out resounding winners, with the class and strength of the team visible in every department.

In their seven games played, the Panthers scored 365 points, conceding just ten.

The addition of a number of national squad members to the already talented squad plus the recruitment of Delyth Davies over the summer as forwards coach has had a massive impact on the Panthers’ young squad.

Panthers coach Hywel Thomas said: “The team deserves every accolade it gets.

“The work ethic and commitment shown by the girls to improve as individual players and as a team has been refreshing to see.

“We now look forward to the league presentation at the Millennium Stadium in January and then the start of the Super Cup campaign.”

Such has been the Panthers’ dominance in Division Two this term that the league’s governing body has decided to enter the club into the cup competition where they will face teams from Division One and the Premiership.

Coach Davies said the side was relishing the opportunity to test themselves against tougher opposition.

“The cup is going to be a huge leap in standard with many internationals in the opposition line-ups.

“There’s no question that we can be competitive but it will be a tough ask to replicate last year’s success against the best teams in Wales.”

The club would like to thank all those involved with the team and all its sponsors for their continued supported.

While the squad enjoys a Christmas break, six Panthers will be donning their boots over the festive period to represent the regional side Scarlets. Catrin Rees, Hannah Jones, Alisha Butchers, Brittony Price, Danielle Jenkins and coach Delyth Davies have all made the cut to be included. Their first game is on December 28 when they face the Ospreys.
