WWRU DIVISION 2

LAMPETER LADIES V PENYBANC PANTHERS

After a few weeks off and a journey halted by a breakdown, the Panthers eventually arrived at Lampeter in a frustrated mood.

The unbeaten Panthers had only just overcome the hosts in the reverse fixture, but turned on the class to put on their finest display of attacking rugby.

Despite the healthy home support, the visitors enjoyed the perfect reward for the strong start as Hannah Jones crossed the whitewash on six minutes. Skipper Catrin Rees converted.

A turn-over two minutes later set returning Brittony Price scampering the length of the field for the first of her five tries. Rees again added the extras.

On 10 minutes, talented youngster Alisha Butchers showed her strength to power through the Lampeter defence and it was clear the Panthers had far too much for the hosts. Rees – as ever - converted.

The Panthers scrum, which had been troubled by Lampeter at home, shoved the hosts off their own ball for Nerys Jenkins to score on 13 minutes with Rees again claiming the extras.

Jones ran the show from outside-half and took on the entire back-line from deep in her own 22 to cross for a stunning score.

Greta Jams again showed her dominance in close quarters, creating an opportunity for herself to score on 24 minutes. Rees..., you know the rest.

Price brought the first half rout to a close on 37 minutes with a fine solo try to secure a half-time 45-0 lead.

The second half started in the same vein with Price collecting her hat-trick. Rees converted.

Two minutes later the forwards ploughed their way up the field and Butchers claimed her second of the day. Rees converted from wide.

Alaw Hughes grabbed a try form full-back on 51 minutes. Jones took over the kicking duties and added the extras.

Holly Roderick, her Panthers comeback, grabbed a fine solo try on 54 minutes, which Jones converted.

With the Panthers dominating all aspects, Jones dummied her opposite number to sprint the length of the field to score a cracking try, which she converted.

A minute later Roderick showed her strength and speed by out-muscling the defence and blasted her way under the sticks. Jones added the extras.

On 70 minutes, Price weaved through the opposition to bring the scoring to a close – but only once Jones had added the extras and the icing on a staggering 99-0 victory.

Next week, table-topping Bargoed visit Penybanc (KO 2.30pm). The visitgors are currently one point ahead of the Panthers, who have two games in hand.
