Welsh League Division Three

Treharris 2 Ammanford AFC 4

Despite missing their entire midfield through work commitments and the suspensions of Ben Soal and Alex Squires, Ammanford still managed to make short work of struggling Treharris to maintain their perfect start to the season.

With Ashleigh Richards unavailable, Luke Fayres also came into the starting line up.

Ammanford again began strongly and opened the scoring inside five minutes after defender Rhys Fisher sent Craig Frater through with a great ball from deep in defence. Frater latched onto the pass inside the penalty area and made no mistake to score.

Ammanford doubled their lead ten minutes later when a long-range shot from Fisher proved too much for the home keeper to hold.

The two-goal advantage was no less than the visitors deserved.

They went further ahead when Frater fired home after Rhys Owen sent him in for goal with a long clearance on 30 minutes.

It was not all plain sailing however and Ammanford were masters of their own downfall as they conceded thanks to some atrocious defending.

The half ended with Lloyd Davies seeing his goal-bound effort brilliantly saved by the Treharris keeper.

After the interval, Frater’s free-kick was blocked by a defender before a Rhys Owen effort swerved wickedly in front of the home keeper, but he still managed to push the ball out for a corner.

With the visitors seemingly in complete command, Dayle Selvage saw his shot fly over the cross bar. Again Ammanford managed to shot themselves in the foot as they conceded another sloppy goal.

Following the introduction of Rhys Morgan and Alex Arnold, Ammanford brought Mathew Fisher into the fray for the final 15 minutes and he immediately made an impact, fiding space out wide and firing in a strike from an acute angle to consolidate Ammanford’s lead and secure the three points.

The win saw Ammanford climb to 11th in the table with nine games in hand on the teams immediately above them.

Ammanford play Cwm Welfare on Tuesday evening and host Cardiff Grange Harlequins on Saturday (KO 2pm).
