Welsh League Division Three

Cwmamman United 3 Lliswerry 2

CWMAMMAN United picked up all three points against Lliswerry.

Cwmamman should have won by a more healthier score line but were guilty of wasting several opportunities especially in the second-half.

Lliswerry started brightly and nearly opened the scoring but a terrific block by keeper Mark Snell kept the visitors at bay.

Cwmamman started to created good chances when Josh Roberts’ effort went narrowly over the cross bar.

The home side took the lead with a good move down Cwmamman’s left and Neil Phillips drilled his shot into the roof of the net.

The home side soon doubled their advantage when Andrew Bonomi headed the ball in from a set piece taken by David Brown. Cwmamman were completely dominant for the first 20 minutes of the second half and were camped in Lliswerry’s half for that period of time creating several chances.

The best was an Andrew Bonomi header which was well saved at point blank range by the visitors keeper.

Lliswerry’s keeper was now increasingly busy and thwarted Cwmamman on many occasions.

Totally against the run of play Lliswerry pulled a goal back after an unlucky own goal by full back David Brown.

Cwmamman were still looking for the third goal and when Liam Soroka was rugby tackled in the penalty area, the home side were amazed when the referee waved play to continue.

But five minutes later, Cwmamman were rewarded when substitution Anthony Finselback’s trickery in the penalty area found Steven Hughes who bundled the ball over the line.

Cwmamman were wasting more chances and paid the price when the home keeper was caught off his line and an opportunist lob by Lliswerry made the score 3-2 to the home side with two minutes to go.

In the closing stages Lliswerry were reduced to 10 men and Cwmamman were able to see the game out.

Craig Spring and Steven Hughes were dominant in midfield while the defensive line of Nathan McNeil, Josh Medwin, Ashley Johns and David Brown were magnificent.

Cwmamman now move up to third in the table after an undefeated month. Next week Cwmamman United are away to Bettws and kick-off is at 2.00pm.
