League Cup Second Round
Croesyceiliog 2 Cwmamman United 3
Cwmamman United returned from Gwent with a great victory against a side a division higher – their second victory of the year completion against Division Two opposition after dumping AFC Llwycoed out of the first round 4-0.
Cwmamman started brightly and controlled the midfield through Craig Spring and Steven Hughes.
Things did not all go to plan however, and completely against the run of play, the visitors put through their own net after the hosts only meaningful attack of the first 20 minutes.
Cwm’s response came quickly as Neil Phillips’s pinpoint pass found Liam Soroka on the right wing and his pass released Andrew Bonomi who slid the ball into the net.
Ten minutes later a neat dummy by Phillips found Bonomi who returned the ball who drilled the ball passed the despairing Ceiliog keeper.
The visitors should have gone into the break with a bigger lead but were thwarted by the home keeper.
Cwmamman started the second period where they left off and were creating chance after chance.
On the hour, Bonomi’s thunderous shot found the roof of the net to extend Cwmamman’s lead, but again the visitors were guilty of wasting opportunities in front of goal.
With 15 minutes left Cwmamman defence stopped for what they thought was a Croesyceiliog off side player but the flag stayed down the hosts were back in the game and looking for the equaliser to take the game into extra time.
Cwmamman who should have regained their two-goal advantage with Soroka and Phillips wasting golden opportunities, but they were able in the end to hold on for the win.
Cwmamman Reserves won by 2-0 against promotion hopefuls Mond. Mickal Rybichki and an own goal proved to be the difference to the delight of new manager Jason Cousins.
Cwmamman United 3rd were held to a 3-3 draw at home against Ynysmeudwy. Cwmamman Scorers were Kieran Martin, Carl James and Cameron Jones.
