Carmarthenshire League Reserve Division Two

Johnstown United 3 Ammanford 4

November didn't get any easier for the young Ammanford side as they travelled to Johnstown Utd for another tough away fixture.

The pitch withstood the terrible weather to host a game that saw committed challenges, cracking goals and a well-deserved three points to the visitors.

Ammanford started on the front foot with Kyle Wells and Simon Pritchard dominating the midfield alongside wingers Jake Webb and Dylan Thomas.

The visitors claimed an early goal through striker Rhodri Jones who nodded in a Matt Warnes throw-in.

A second came soon after when centre back Lloyd Bevan fired yet a another free-kick into the net to claim his fourth goal of the season.

With Ammanford looking comfortable, the worsening pitch aided the hosts as they went on the attack - and they got their reward through a superb flicked effort that found the top corner.

Ammanford looked to respond quickly and did so thanks to a fantastic finish by Jones who got his second with a neatly-placed volley following a powerful run by strike partner Nathan Spowart.

With the two-goal buffer restored, Ammanford went quiet and allowed United back into the game. An own goal saw the deficit cut to one.

Then with the last play of the first half, a through ball skidded it's way to the striker who lobbed the ball into the net and Ammanford surrendered a deserved lead to go into the break at 3-3.

The second half saw Ammanford put on one of their most impressive displays of the season with determination all over the pitch as defenders Hugh Conway, Jack Conway and Matt Warnes, alongside Bevan, threw themselves into blocks and made crucial tackles to prevent going behind.

Ammanford still needed a fourth goal to take the three points.

Rhys Williams and Owain Jones came on and had chances while Rhodri Jones had efforts well-saved or blocked.

The visitors duly got their reward however when Jones returned the favour to his fellow striker, crossing for Spowart to get the winner.

The final ten minutes saw nervy times for Ammanford as keeper Hedd-Wyn Jones was repeatedly tested with the ball skidding off the slippery pitch.

The keeper, however, was equal to the task.

Ammanford held on for a vital three points that saw them three points clear at the top after playing over half of their league games.

With further challenges ahead the young side have been committed and deserve their place at the top of the table. Ammanford host West End in another tough contest next week.
