Penygroes 24 Blaenau 3
PENYGROES continued their winning streak with a fourtry bonus point win over near neighbours Blaenau to record a third successive victory.
The visitors started brightly and took the lead after just five minutes with a well struck penalty.
Penygroes responded strongly and dominated both possession and territory and it was no surprise when full back Cerith Evans streaked over after a classy back line move, centre Chris Powell maintaining his superb kicking form with a brilliant conversion.
The hosts continued to dominate despite playing against a strong wind and only over anxious handling errors prevented further scores.
Eventually the constant pressure paid off and flanker Craig Davies stormed over for a well deserved unconverted try to give them a deserved 12-3 halftime lead.
Immediately following the break, Penygroes increased their stranglehold on the match with yet another fine try from their man of the match Evans.
Powell landed another excellent conversion to give his side a match-winning three score lead which they never looked like giving up.
Outside half Leighton Rees and Powell constantly put Blaenau on to the back foot with some really telling line kicks, but again poor handling and wrong options held up the hosts in their search for a first winning bonus point.
To their credit, they stuck to the task and with just minutes remaining skipper Shon Davies stormed over for a bonus point winning captain’s try to see his side run
