WRU National League 1

West Ammanford 47 Felinfoel 19

AMMANFORD produced their best display of the season on Saturday as they defeated Felinfoel in an excellent game of open rugby at the Recreation Ground.

Felinfoel started well with a dominant scrum and some dead-eye goal-kicking and it took Ammanford a while to get into the game but after a good line-out drive, the Black and Blues recycled the ball well to see centre Craig Woodall run an excellent angle to score under the posts.

Returning outside half Rhydian Morris kicked the extras.

A key moment in the game was soon to follow as Foel lost their key second rower Stuart Walters to a suspected broken ankle.

Ammanford stepped up the pace and veteran scrum-half Aled “Halen” Parry, taking a sabbatical from his Ironman training, took advantage of the change in personnel to switch play and put Gary Stephens in for a try.

Penalties were exchanged by both sides to make the half-time score 15-12 to Ammanford.

Ammanford obviously took onboard the half-time comments as they powered through the second half with some great attacking rugby.

With Parry and Morris orchestrating at half back and younger brother Llyr Morris punching above his weight in the back row, Ammanford soon got a couple of decisive scores.

Morris put over a sweet drop goal from 40 metres before he then broke down the touchline and weaved his way under the posts.

He converted his own try before Woodall got his second to secure the bonus point.

Ammanford were not finished yet, with Ryan Williams replacing the outstanding Chris Morris to set up another attack that led to Morris crossing for his brace.

The last try underlined Ammanford’s dominance as Jake baker raced in from long range.

Foel scored a late consolation try but Ammanford will go into the Autumn break full of confidence as they visit leaders Kidwelly in the next match.
