Cwmgors 5 Brynaman 17

IN A much-anticipated long overdue local derby, the Brynaman Greens of the Gwter Fawr had too much for Cwmgor’s Cherries.

Cwmgors started the brightest with outside half Steffan Rees peppering the corners and relying on a game plan of catch and drive, which led to the first try of the game from ex-Green Caron Jones. But this was the wake-up call the Greens pack needed.

The front row of Dewi Slyman, Alan Morgan and Steffan Weaver Davies drove the Greens scrum forward at a rate of knots to win a penalty, which the ever reliable Dafydd Jones converted.

The Cwmgors back row tried to rattle the experienced and classy Greens outside half Craig Jones, but this only resulted in the referee awarding the Greens another penalty in Daf Jones’ range, which he slotted over.

At half-time, the score was Cwmgors 5 Brynaman 6 It was all one-way traffic in the second half with impressive Greens forwards Daniel Page, Grant Milne, Joel Spurway and Clive Llewelyn taking the game to the Cherries and winning two kickable penalties that Dafydd Jones converted.

Slick inter-passing between Paul Taylor, Steffan Dugan and Kieran Bennett then saw Josh Ferriman send speedy winger Owain Sullivan over in the corner
