AMMANFORD AFC began their home league campaign with a 2-0 victory over Cardiff Corinthians.

The hosts started brightly as Matthew Fisher broke free of the defensive line, before he was denied by a last ditch tackle.

With 17 minutes on the clock, Ammanford nearly got the opener but Rhys Owen could only bundle the ball into the goalkeeper’s arms.

The hosts continued to apply the pressure and Fisher saw his tame shot collected by the grateful arms of the Corries' keeper. Just after the interval Ammanford got the goal they’d been searching for; Craig Frater played an exquisite diagonal ball to Fisher, who dribbled into the area before netting on 46 minutes.

On 57 minutes the lead was indeed doubled; from a quick free kick Fisher played the ball short to Alec Squires on the edge of the area, who unleashed a 20 yard thunderbolt into the top corner.

Then a triple save denied Frater, Fisher and then Mikey Morris. The home side won a penalty, but Fisher blasted his spot- kick over the bar.

With 15 minutes left, Enoch saw his curling effort from the edge of the area saved.

Cardiff threatened to halve the deficit, but a volley from a corner was fired wide.

Ammanford’s next game is at home to Cardiff Metropolitan University on the 8th of November
