Welsh League Division Three

Newport Civil Service 0 Ammanford 11

Ammanford overcame the disappointment of their controversial relegation with the 11-0 decimation of Newport Civil Service at Shannon Close, writes Nick Davies.

Having had to wait until mid-October to play their opening league game ensured Ammanford were raring to go and they almost started with a bang, as a rebound fell to Alec Squires who blasted over when open.

Soon after, Brett Enoch rounded a defender before delicately chipping the keeper, only for the ball to fall wide of the post.

Newport nearly opened the scoring, but their goal was disallowed for offside and Ammanford made them pay.

Enoch threaded through a delightful ball for substitute Lloyd Davies on 15 minutes, whose pass across goal deflected into the path of Squires for a tap-in.

Only a minute later, provider turned goalscorer as Matthew Fisher played an instinctive switch to Mikey Morris on the left. The exquisite direct cross was met by the head of the diving Davies.

Fisher then had his own goal ruled out on 17 minutes, but on 19 minutes, a string of passes saw him shooting from inside the 18 yard box, but his attempt was blocked on the line by the hand of an opposition player. It was a double whammy for the hosts, as Fisher coolly slotted home to increase the lead to three, while the home side were reduced to ten.

Fisher then saw his free-kick rattle the crossbar minutes later.

Enoch got his second assist of the game when he played in Craig Frater, who delightfully flicked the ball past the stranded goalkeeper with the outside of his boot on 25 minutes to put the visitors 4-0 up. He then thought he had his second of the game, but he was deemed offside.

On the stroke of half time, Fisher whipped in a great ball for Davies who headed into the top corner to double his tally.

Five minutes after the interval, Davies was brought down outside the area. From 22 yards, Frater claimed his second as he powered home a low free-kick to make the score 6-0.

Nine minutes later, Fisher chased down a tame back pass and made the most of the keeper missing the ball, by tapping in his second.

Only a minute later, the ever energetic Fisher cut the ball back for Squires to fire home.

Soon after, Frater broke free of the defence and rounded the keeper, only to overrun the ball.

On 73 minutes, Euros Griffiths saw his shot fly wide of the post after a corner fell at his feet and three minutes later Frater had another disallowed when he was adjudged to have strayed offside.

However, he did set up Fisher who flicked in his third on 77 minutes and brother Rhys combined with Frater three minutes later, as the latter tapped in to get his hat-trick.

The demolition was complete on 83 minutes, as substitute Luke Fayres netted his 102nd goal for Ammanford, as they laid down a marker ahead of their Division Three campaign, breaking the club’s Welsh League goal-scoring record en route.
