Swansea F C 2 Ammanford 4

Ammanford u12s, in the middle of run of nine away games, earned a good win with a battling performance in a very entertaining game.

On a windy day in Gowerton, Ammanford started well and were unlucky to go a goal down early on when a high shot was held up in the wind and lobbed over Shannon Thomas into the net.

The home side’s second came a few minutes after, the striker finishing well after collecting the ball from a long throw in catching the Ammanfords defenders ball watching.

With both goals coming against the run of play and the wind, the visitors responded and went close to scoring when Llian Scott gathered the ball in the box, with just the keeper to beat, but her standing foot slipped and the chance was gone.

Ammanford’s opener quickly followed however, Chloe Rees intercepted a pass and played the ball towards the opposition box where Elin Hendre sprinted onto the pass and side-footed her finish past the keeper into the corner.

The second period was end to end from start to finish with the visiting back four of Katy Edwards, Faye Duncan, Amiee O Malley and Chloe Rees all producing superb performances to keep the opposition to virtually no shots on goal and with the ever alert keeper Thomas quickly off her line to snaffle up any through balls.

The equaliser eventually came when Ffion Jones, who had a fine game, saw her throw-in collected by Nell Edwards who turned into the box and shot accurately into the corner of the goal.

Ammanford took the lead after the keeper parried a powerful Scott shot, and a well-placed Edwards calmly slotted in the rebound.

Ammanford extended their lead in the third period with Hendre squeezing the ball under the keeper after some good build up play involving Duncan and Scott.

Swansea broke through on several occasions late on, but some great tackles and excellent defensive tracking from Ffion Jones ensured Ammanford secured the points.
