Betws 20 Llansawel 0

A much changed Betws side claimed a comfortable victory over a young Llansawel side in windy conditions.

Betws started brightly and nearly scored straight from the kick off only to be denied by a great last-gasp tackle.

The young visitors could not hold out for long however and veteran full-back Cellan Davies claimed his first try for some time out wide. The conversion was missed thanks to a gale force wind, and the tone was set for the kickers who struggled to gauge the conditions throughout.

With confidence flowing through the hosts, Betws Matthew Madge scored his first try for the club after a strong driving line-out.

More was to come from the youthful hooker as he burrowed his way over again after several surges close to the Llansawel line.

With Betws rampant they should have scored several more tries but for indifferent handling and the odd forward pass saw them come up short.

Madge claimed his first career hat-trick just before half-time after another powerful drive from the well-drilled Betws pack.

The supporters were then hoping for an onslaught in the second half, but no such rout materialised, but both Betws coaches were delighted with the win - and the bonus point.

The young Betws side have now claimed four wins on the bounce, but face a tough cup match at Bynea on next Saturday.
