West Wales Ladies League

Ammanford Ladies 0 Swansea University Ladies 3

After the Students ran out comfortable winners when the sides met last week, Ammanford’s visitors may well have expected a far easier encounter than they endured on Sunday.

In an evenly fought out first half, the visitors went ahead early on through some good build up play down the left hand side opening up the defence.

The tame effort should have been kept out, but somehow found its way into the Ammanford net.

The hosts nearly hit back immediately when Cerys Thomas’ through ball was chased down by Yasmin Gutteridge, who, after holding off the defender, saw her smart effort brilliantly saved by the keeper.

Helen O’ Rourke was then thwarted from close range after good passage of play.

Ammanford’s back four of Ffion Howells, Thomas, Siobhan O’ Rourke and Lena Hendre were all on form and kept the visitors at bay until late on in the half when the University side broke away, and the visiting striker finished well despite claims of an off-side.

The second half was an evenly contested affair with both defences proving difficult to break down. The home team’s best chance of the half fell to Gutteridge only for the visiting keeper to again pull off a great save.

The students gradually gained more territory and late on forced a penalty after low shot struck an Ammanford the arm.

The spot-kick was efficiently despatched.

Ammanford Ladies went into the game sporting their new kit, sponsored by Castell Howell Foods , Lorey Metals (Swansea), Dyfed Menswear and Headworks (Ammanford).
