West Wales Cup

Round One

Brunswick United 3 Bryn Rovers 2

Bryn Rovers lost a rugged West Wales Cup encounter away at Swansea league outfit Brunswick United.

The away team gave a good encounter of themselves and were unlucky to fall behind when a free-kick was floated in to the back post which caught out the defence and allowed the hosts a free header to score.

The second Brunswick goal came on the half-hour when a quick corner routine again caught Bryn out.

The non-existent marking on the edge allowed the Brunswick centre-half to stride forward and bury a shot from 18 yards.

Josh Jones had a great strike hit the post for Bryn soon after and Mark James missed a golden opportunity at the back post during a good ten-minute spell for Rovers.

The visitors earned a lifeline just before the interval when the pace of Julian Jones caused real problems for the home team as he finished well into the corner.

The second half saw Bryn pick up the pace as they had a real go at the unstable defence of the home team.

The introduction of Adam Campbell seemed to inject real danger into the game, and he had a shot cleared off the line with his first touch.

Moments later he was fouled in the box and Jones duly converted the spot-kick to make it 2-2.

Having battled back from 2-0 down, Bryn tried to snatch a winner before the end of normal time, but their luck ran out when a Brunswick counter led to a headed goal to win the game.
