Llandovery College 33 Bridgend College 19

The Lilywhites continued their good from in the Welsh Colleges League Cup with a five tries to three win over Bridgend, writes Huw S Thomas.

Llandovery stay in second place behind Coleg Sir Gar whom they meet in Llanelli on Wednesday (October 15).

Llandovery improved on the away win over Gwent College (19-12) with a bonus-point success and were well in control for most of the game on Tredegar Close.

They edged both territory and possession early on with the back row of Ross Barnes, Morgan Williams and skipper Stephen Leonard, prop Rhys Fawcett and hooker Jordi Den Hartog all catching the eye.

Live-wire Harry Randall was in his usual needle sharp form at the base of the scrum and it was no surprise when left wing Josh Davies sprinted away for two very smart tries – both converted by full back Jac Evans.

Bridgend worked hard to get back into the game with Rowan Davies outstanding and the mobile No 8 got a corner try back just before half time to give his side the encouragement they needed.

The game was tighter but scrum half Randall produced a bit of magic with a run, chip through and swallow dive to snatch a try from under the noses of the visitors defence.

Thunder and lightning halted play for a good ten minutes before bustling centre Ben Phillips crossed for the bonus point, Evans converting for a 26-5 lead.

Bridgend remained competitive with scrum half Connor Tantum busy as a bee and lock Jack Pope strong at the line out and Davies was up in support to deservedly get his second try, converted by Tantum.

Just when it looked that Bridgend would threaten the home lead, wing Jack Griffiths finished off good approach work from the home pack with corner try, very well converted by Evans to settle the issue.

A late Tantum try converted by replacement Harrison Evans ended the scoring.
