Division Three West A

Llandybie 15 Nantgaredig 28

Llandybie were only just able to muster a team to host Nantgaredig with both the home scrum-half and fly-half pulling out on the morning of the match and centre Tom Rees injured.

Both teams felt their way into the early stages before Gareth Jones put in a good touch-finder on the left and good forwards play disrupted the visiting line for stand-in scrum-half Mike Tench to release winger Josh Cranfield for a Llandybie touchdown.

Nantgaredig reduced the arrears with a Meirion Davies penalty and when the hosts infringed again, Davies edged them in front.

Lyndon Davies and Rhydian Jones worked hard and were willing carriers for Llandybie, and both were unlucky not to score while hooker Kevin Walters shone in open play. But poor tackling in the centre allowed Davies in for a try to extend the visitors lead and he added insult to injury with the extras.

Llandybie were guilty of kicking away possession and when they did look dangerous with ball in hand they all too often took the wrong option at the crucial moment.

A charged-down kick resulted saw Nant claim another touchdown and an 18–5.

A good spell for Llandybie earned the hosts a penalty, which captain Andrew Thomas converted to see the end half with the hosts trailing 18-8.

With so many players playing out of position, Llandybie struggled to find any continuity in their play and the visitors added another penalty and a further try for a comfortable 28-8 lead.

Llandybie’s injury woes worsened when they lost Rob Smith with a groin strain, with veteran Tracey Lewis coming on as replacement.

Young Josh Lewis almost scored with a length of the field run while Dai Lloyd and Dan Wigley took on the ball-carrying duties.

Davies and Jones remained a handful for Nant and good forward play by the pack gave Jones a deserved score, converted by Andrew Thomas.

Despite struggling with an ever-growing injury list, Llandybie continue to hold their own on the field only to pay the price for simple mistakes.

Jones and Davies were outstanding for the hosts with Wigley and Walters also impressing. close behind.
