Division Two West

Tycroes 9 Penlan 5

Carwyn Richards kicked three penalties to see off Penlan in Division Two West.

After losing 9-8 to Penclawdd the previous week, Tycroes took less than a minute to open the scoring as Richards slotted over his first of the day.

The slender lead was finally extended in the 40th minute with Richards adding a second as the first half proved a frustrating affair for both sides.

A lenient referee allowed the visiting full-back to go unpunished following a late charge on his opposite number while Penlan also felt aggrieved when a driven line-out was stopped short and the forward picked and to drive over only for the man in the middle blew up for a penalty after incorrectly adjudging the scorer to have crawled over the line.

The frustrations boiled over in the second half when players from both sides decided to take matters into their own hands.

Penlan closed the deficit on 55 minutes when Dean Davies crossed for a try, but the conversion went wide of the mark.

Richards extended the Tycroes lead on 65 minutes with his third kick of the day.

Tycroes held on to the lead until the final whistle to earn their first victory over Penlan for many a year.

Tycroes travel to Cwmllynfell on Saturday for a Swalec Plate encounter.
