Ammanford Youth 29 Amman United Youth 5

Ammanford Youth overcame a resilient Amman United youth in a feisty 29-5 win at the Recreational Ground, writes Nick Davies.

During the opening exchanges, there was a regular exchange of possession with United seemingly on top.

However, that counted for nothing when Jack Westcott prized open the visitors’ defence and broke clear only to be halted by the chasing Steffan Pryce-Griffiths.

Ammanford did get the opening score on 18 minutes though, after Tom Cooze eventually crossed after a string of phases near the try line.

A few moments later, the away side’s Dwayne Griffiths utilised his pace to power forward on the wing, but when it looked as if he was ready to touch down, he was brought down, five metres short.

Six minutes later, Adam Wolley added to United’s woes as he powered through the visitors’ defence and converted his own try to make it 12-0 on 28 minutes.

Before the interval, the Amman replied; Tom Thorneycroft spread the ball to Shane Edwards, whose incisive breakaway made it 12-5.

The second half was far more a one-sided contest, as Wolley again broke through and converted his own try.

The home side extended the lead on 69 minutes as they crossed in the corner.

Four minutes later, the hosts finished off with another try, touching down in the corner.
