Pontadawe 6 Ystradgynlais 12

Ystradgynlais won their third game against Swansea Valley opposition in seven days with a 12-6 victory over hosts Pontardawe, but the effort has taken its toll with a growing casualty list for the Blues.

The visitors started the stronger, but their numerous attacks endless pointless with final passes going to ground rather than hand.

The first points came with a 35-metre penalty from fly half Ricky-Williams.

The former Swansea man doubled the score minutes later with a penalty in front of the posts.

Pontardawe hit back with a well-struck penalty from full back Mathew Edwards.

The Blues managed to reclaim their six-point advantage before the break when Williams capitalised on some poor home discipline with a 40-metre penalty to ensure the visitors enjoy a 9-3 interval lead.

The second half began as the first had ended in scrappy and disjointed fashion.

Pontardawe’s main threat with ball in hand and by boot was Edwards, and he scored the first points of the half with another well-struck penalty.

Ystradgynlais’ frustrations continued as they failed to convert their territorial dominance into points, and they were lucky not to have been punished for their failings when Edwards went close with two long-range kicks.

The final word went to Williams however when he kicked an impressive long-range penalty to secure the win with seconds to go.
