Girls Football – U16s

Ammanford 5 Llangyfelach 2

Ammanfords u16 girls started their new season with a hard fought victory over a powerful Llangyfelach team.

In a fairly even first half, Ammanford started brightly and created some early chances.

The home side kept up the pressure and debutant Molly Ash, doing some good work on the right wing, found Nia Rees on the edge of box. With a quick turn and dribble she beat three defenders and found Aimee Heath, who blasted the ball into the roof of the net.

The equaliser came when a long clearance caught out the Ammanford’s defence and the opposition striker produced with a clinical finish from the edge of the box.

Ammanford reclaimed the advantage midway through the half.

Rees picked up the ball on the half-way line and, after another superb run, she broke into the box and matched the run with an expertly taken finish.

The visitors refused to lie down however and hit back soon after.

With the wind at their backs and reshuffle of the team, the home team attacked from the start of the second half and were rewarded early, Lucy Packer smashing the ball from the edge of the area low into the corner, Rees again the provider.

Ammanford’s defence of Maya Conway, Ffion Morgan, Georgina Jones, and Lowri Harris were dominating and with the midfield now well on top, more chances were inevitable.

Louise Palmer added the fourth with a cool finish and Elly Harris capped off an excellent debut by completing the scoring with a powerful finish after a good run.
