Division One West

Loughor 25 Amman United 13

Amman United put up a disappointing showing on their Division One West trip to Loughor and got exactly what their lacklustre performance deserved - nothing.

An Adrian Thomas penalty early on kept them in contention after the home side had notched an early brace for a 6-3 lead.

United showed glimpses of their exciting running game when Dean Williams’ scything crossfield break created the gap to put winger Darryl John in for a corner try and an 8-6 lead, but in truth the visitors never managed to get out of first gear and that was as good as things got for United.

From that point on they were second best.

Their normally reliable front-eight didn’t fire despite Alun Lewis and Sean Mangan working hard all over the park, and Matthew Wrigley giving his all.

Amman’s shortcomings were shown up as they suffered the indignity of the hosts earning two pushover scrum tries.

Replacement Tom Davies solidified the scrum on his introduction, but Amman were too pedestrian and predictable and didn’t test the Loughor defence.

A late second try for Darryl John was all the visitors could muster, but they will have to put this down as a bad day at the office and look for improvement when Llangennech come to visit Cwmaman Park on Saturday.
