Ammanford 0 Cwmbran Celtic 4

Ammanford went down to Cwmbran Celtic in a pre-season friendly ahead of their Welsh Cup showdown against local rivals Cwmamnan.

Both Ammanford and Cwmbran have been left in limbo after their controversial relegations last season and have been forced to watch on as others have begun their league campaign, as they await to hear their fate from the FAW.

Cwmbran took a stranglehold as they pulled ahead early on. A headed clearance was volleyed past Ben Ledger in the Ammanford goal after four minutes.

The hosts retained possession for periods, but just as they began to look comfortable, the deficit was doubled.

Celtic cut inside, and a sublime finish fizzed past the Ammanford defence and into the right corner of the goal on 22 minutes.

The home side did maintain some parity before half-time, but after the interval things got worse.

Ammanford were slow out of the blocks and on 48 minutes, the visitors extended their advantage.

From a quick, long ball, counter, Cwmbran’s sole attacker was in a 50/50 battle for the ball with keeper Ledger, who missed the ball, leaving the goal gaping.

Two minutes later, the travelling side tested the Ammanford keeper once more and again found some fortune.

A 20=yard shot was parried, but fell at the feet of a Cwmbran attacker who coolly slotted home.

Ammanford piled forward in search of a consolation goal.

Matthew Fisher looked the man most likely, but misfired on 58 minutes.

A cross flicked goalwards late on fell just wide of the post.

Ammanford will be hoping they can put the loss behind them ahead of next weekend’s cup derby.
