SWCA Division One

Ammanford (72-1) beat Tata Steel (69) by nine wickets

Ammanford wrapped up their most convincing victory of the season by 4.30pm on Saturday with a nine-wicket annihilation of second-placed Tata Steel.

Any supporter turning up at 5pm hoping to enjoy the second half would have been met with an empty Park.

The upside was that inside the club things were already bouncing.

Tata had no hope of overtaking champions Ammanford, but nevertheless elected to bat when they won the toss, possibly hoping to close the gap at the top.

After 15 overs they were 35 for five. No gaps were about to close.

Tom Maynard picked up four wickets while Matthew Fisher rested his spinning fingers and bowled seam so effectively that the Tata batsmen were simply not good enough to get an edge off him.

When Matthew Roberts (3-12) was introduced to the attack he took three wickets in his second over to send Tata hurtling to 40 for eight.

Maynard picked up another to take his season’s first five-for, and Fisher put Tata out of their misery with a trademark run-out.

Tata were all out for 69 in 33 overs.

Rhys Culley and Rhys Davies set about the Tata attack with an opening stand of 36 before Davies (28) was stumped in the eighth over.

Culley (42no) took just half a dozen more overs to finish matters off and by 4.30pm it was ta-ta, Tata.

Ammanford return to the South Wales Premier League next season after a thoroughly convincing demonstration of their superiority in the SWCA.
