A talented 11 year-old gymnast from Penygroes brought home her first gold medal after competing in this year’s tumbling NDP (National Development Plan) Competition.

Sara Thomas of 12, Gorsddu Terrace, is a member of West Street Gymnastics Club Swansea, competed in level three, 11-12 years category.

The event, set by British Gymnastics, was held at the Telford International Arena, on July, 5, and Sara fiercely fought off stiff competition from talented tumblers across Britain vying for medal success.

A family member said: “We are delighted for Sara; the whole family really proud of her achievement.”

The sporty 11 year-old trains three days a week for up-to twelve hours, and travels to numerous events across the country to compete.

West Street Gymnastics picked up a further four gold medals at the Welsh Tumbling finals.

Karen Adams, Chair of the Tumbling Technical Committee in Wales, said: “What a weekend!

“All those medals from all those gymnasts - I don’t think Wales have ever won so many medals at one Tumbling championships.

“All the gymnasts looked and acted like an elite team, supporting each other and cheering on Team Wales.”
