Alpha Fasteners Cricket League
Division Two
Ammanford Thirds valiantly lost their battle to overcome Swansea in Division Two of the Alpha Fasteners West Wales League on Saturday by 37 runs.
The visitors opened the batting and Ammanford skipper Ian Rees made early inroads into the Swansea innings.
Rees offered up some tight bowling to limit Swansea’s batsmen and ended the day figures of 40 for four.
He was ably helped in his task by Joseff Rees (2-21) and Joseph Davies (1-1).
The Swansea innings came to an early end and the visitors were all out for 140 inside 32 overs, thanks to some fine fielding from the Ammanford side.
Joshua Murray’s splendid catch was the highlight of an impressive fielding display from the hosts and set the match up nicely for the home batsmen to shine.
It was never quite to be however and Ammanford were never quite up with the pace required.
Despite a solid 44 from Arfon Davies – well-supported by Joseff Rees’ 15 – the hosts were unable to ever really find their stride.
Rees was one of the stars of the day, enjoying a fine all-round game.
However, wickets fell at regular intervals and Ammanford were all out for 103.
The result leaves them in fourth place, 28 points off the promotion places with two games remaining.
