Ystradgynlais RFC have added to their trophy cabinet this year by picking up The All Wales Sport Best Social Media Club award in recognition of the club’s online presence.

The trophy is the club’s second new media award, having picked up the All Wales Sport Best Twitter Account award in 2012/13.

The club’s social media presence includes Twitter, Facebook and an increasing popular website.

The All Wales Sports team made their choice after considering the online presence of all clubs in Wales.

“It is an unbelievable honour to be placed ahead of the other 319 clubs in Wales, including the Premiership,” said Huw Thomas of Ystradgynlais RFC.

“We have always believed that an active, entertaining and up-to-date social medial service is vital towards the smooth running of a rugby club.

“It has helped boost our takings, image and player numbers.

“We also believe in fighting our corner and selling the town of Ystradgynlais.

“Nothing makes us more proud than to writing about the achievements of our teams and players, especially those playing at the highest level.”

In announcing the award, an All Wales Sport spokesman said: “The Swansea Valley club has really kicked on since claiming the Best Twitter account last year.

“Their website is up-to-date and has opinion pieces and reports, while their Twitter and Facebook pages are engaging.

“What we like about them is that they are always looking at ways to innovate how they interact via social media and we honestly think some of the bigger clubs could look at the way Ystradgynlais conduct themselves over social media.’
