Melyn 73 Gwaun cae Gurwen 72

The Waun travelled to Melyn of Neath knowing they would face a battle having gone down to their hosts in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

Despite the worst possible weather forecast, the game was played in constant sunshine on what can only be described as a heavy and very tricky green.

Due to work and holiday commitments , the Waun were forced to seek the assistance of two of the club’s ladies and both Judith and Carol Rees performed well Rink One.

After five ends, the Waun led 19–17 and held their advantage at 36–35 on ten ends when the tea break was taken.

The interval benefited the hosts more than the Waun and after 15 ends the Melyn had overturned the scores to lead 51–48.

The game continued in nap and tuck fashion with the Melyn going into the final end 70-64 ahead.

Despite outscoring their hosts 8–3 over the last end, the Waun had to

concede the win to the Melyn by 73–72.

The result saw the Melyn pick up 12 points to the Waun’s two.

Despite the setback, the Waun still top their division with a lead of 23 points over the Melyn in second although the Neath side do hold a game in hand.

The Waun next take to the green when they host the Gnoll on August 2.
