Glynhir Golf Club’s Junior Open Day proved a great success when, despite the damp conditions, 67 youngsters from all over south and west Wales, with handicaps ranging from two to 54, attended.

The day was the first Junior Open at Glynhir for some time and was a Dyfed Order Of Merit event.

The 0-20 handicap boys medal competitions wet to Elis Lewis from Borth and Ynyslas Golf Club for the Best Gross and Glynhir’s own Jacob Liles for the Best Nett.

Megan Thomas from Carmarthen claimed the Best Nett medal in the 0-36 handicap girls competition while Carys Worby from Newport Links scooped the Best Gross.

Glynhir’s Rhys Armstrong won the 21-36 handicap Stableford competition while another club player Frazer Gregory claimed the nine-hole competition.

Scarlets and Wales star - and Glynhir member - Rhodri Williams was on hand to present the awards to the winning youngsters.

Glynhir has an active and thriving junior section and has witnessed a growth in junior membership during the past year.

The club’s PGA professional Bruce Porter, together with assistant Steve Williams, are currently holding junior group lessons for beginners on Saturday mornings and anyone interested in joining in can contact Bruce on 01269 851010.
