Gwaun cae Gurwen 80 Briton Ferry Combine 61
Gwaun cae Gurwen extended their winning despite hosting Briton Ferry Combine in what was expected to be their toughest match of the season to date.
On a beautiful sunny day and on a good-paced surface, the Waun started well and thanks to their Number One rink, who took an early 10-3 advantage, led by 21–14 after five ends.
The hosts continued to outscore their visitors and extended their lead to 48–26 after ten ends.
Following a well-deserved tea break, the Waun maintained their scintillating pace to put themselves 64–34 after 15 ends with the finish in sight.
However, they took their foot off the gas on the home straight and were outscored over the last six ends, but still had more than enough in hand to cruise to a 80-61 victory.
The win ensured the Waun picked up a maximum 12 points compared to Combine’s two.
Next week, the Waun travel to Briton Ferry Town for what is likely to prove a tough encounter.
