Ammanford’s second team produced their worst performance of the season to lose by three wickets in the SWCA Seconds Division One on a sunny day in Gowerton.

Ammanford won the toss and opted to bat first.

The benefit of a good opening stand of 72 from John Jones (28) and Jamie Evans (41) was negated by some silly running and slack batting further down the order.

Only Gareth Thomas with 26 achieved a reasonable score and the innings closed on 162.

In reply, Gowerton batted steadily on a good track and reached their target for the loss of seven wickets.

Mathew Warnes was the pick of the Ammanford bowlers with three for 47.

Nathan Jones will look for much better from his team next week at home against Tata Steel.

Meanwhile, the thirds also travelled to Gowerton but came home with a convincing eight-wicket victory.

Some good bowling from Ammanford’s young bowlers dismissed the hosts for 122.

Good knocks from Arfon Davies (53) and Harri Jones (37) saw Ammanford home for the loss of just two wickets.
