Ystradgynlais 50 Gwaun cae Gurwen 87.75

Gwaun cae Gurwen travelled to Ystradgynlais having known all week they were likely to find themselves short-handed.

As expected they were light on their first three rinks.

However as all bowlers know, adversity can sometimes be turned into a big advantage.

On a good- paced green the Waun led 19–12 after five ends, with their Number Four rink leading 10–0.

The visitors continued to pressurise their hosts and by the completion of the tenth end led by 39–27.

With the tea interval over, the Waun continued increasing their score and they took a commanding 58 35 advantage after 15 ends.

Going into the home straight, the Waun Number Two rink recovered from 11–8 down on 15 ends to end up claiming a smart 18–12 victory.

Meanwhile, the Number Three rink continued to outscore the homesters to ensure the Waun secured a comfortable 85.75- 50 victory and 12 league points compared to the hosts’ two.

The Waun Number One rink were unfortunate to drop three shots on the last end to lose by 16–14.25.

Next week the Waun host Briton Ferry Combine who just lost out on promotion last season, so the Waun will be expecting a difficult game
